Pregnancy, my go to nutrients


Hey there! From the third trimester. Why do things seem to go much quicker with the second pregnancy!? I've been getting inquiries lately about different supplements out there and what I take prior too and during pregnancy. I love reading your emails!

There is soooooo much info out there on mommy blogs and other great resources regarding pregnancy, but this is just my little corner of the cyber world so I wanted to share thoughts and supplements that I have been taking; the why and the help that they have been to me. I hope to encourage you on your journey wherever that may be.

I always feel led to share that when things seem to not be working as you were told they would, or maybe things are taking longer than expected, this is not your fault. There is freedom in knowing that you have done everything right and the rest will work out in time. 

Before we got pregnant with this little baby we had some trouble conceiving after a heart wrenching miscarriage, so I reached out to our Naturopathic Doctor and he recommended that I start taking a product called Maca Harmony, by Femmenessence. This product was amazing with more than just helping us get pregnant. It helped stabilize my mood, increase my energy, lower my anxiety and stress and regulate my hormones.

We got pregnant within 6 weeks of taking this awesome herb. The only ingredient in it is Maca powder, which has timeless scientific data showing how it helps regulate hormones and menstrual cycles. I was able to take this until the second trimester, which is when they recommended that it is no longer needed until after the baby is born. And you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be jumping right back on the band wagon once our baby is born. I felt so good while taking it. 

During my pregnancy with Ren, I found out we were pregnant at week 3 so I jumped right into taking prenatal's knowing importance they bring to not only the growing baby, but also the incredible level of nutrition they bring to momma. The prenatals I took were loaded with ginger, which has many reviews on reducing morning sickness. It would be foolish to credit my lack of horrible morning sickness to just one thing, but I believe a big part of that was my prenatal. There are also many reviews online of other expecting mommas that have experienced less morning sickness while taking this. Yay for good products! I also use a really good, all natural progesterone cream to keep my levels up since this seems to be an issue for my body to do on it's own. 

I also kept up with taking all of the ingredients in my daily shake. If I don't get a shake on a busy day then I try to at least get Cod Liver Oil in because of the nutrients it brings to the baby's growing brain. I also LOVE that the orange flavor totally disguises the pretty nasty flavor of the cod liver. 

A couple of immune system builders, Elderberry and Kombucha have always helped my immune system during the winter months. Because I work in medicine and come into contact with very sick patients all day long, I take an extra shot of Elderberry syrup to help boost my immune system when I'm feeling under the weather. I also drink Kombucha as often as I can to help increase my healthy gut bacteria which in turn helps boost my immune system. One day I'll get back to making my own, but until then GT's is a great brand. 

The last thing that I really love and has made a huge difference in my pregnancies is Herbally Grounded - Balance. It made a huge difference in my mood swings and high and low emotions. I swear this thing works like a gem. I'd encourage any pregnant or even postpartum momma to be on this stuff and watch yourself feel so much better as things begin to level out. 

Pregnancy is precious and difficult, motherhood is beautiful and messy, but it's definitely the hardest job I've ever had. I find that by taking care of myself I am able to be my best self for my family.
