real talk on unconditional love

Goodness, you'd think after 27 years on planet earth and growing up with a family that knows how to love well, that I would be some kind of pro by now.

Love. It's an action; a choice we make to put someone else's needs above our own. To accept them right where they are without stipulations or manipulation to make them something else. To unconditionally love them when advice has been asked for and then carefully given, when ears have been attentive to listening to their heart. To unconditionally love when the advice and words spoken seem to have been left behind and choices are made that weren't part of the "plan." Learning that when offense creeps in and the heart seems to start a journey removing itself from the scene, finding a way to choose love, real unconditional love.

It really shouldn't be that hard since unconditional love has been shown to me many, many times. It seems super easy to do when it's those extra close to me, but the further outside of my "home" I get, the harder it is to walk out real unconditional love, which is just plain sad.

So for me, my new years resolution for 2016, which will obviously be wayyy more like a life goal, is to discover what it looks like to truly love unconditionally. Making a habit to chose to love unconditionally until it becomes a part of me. In every circumstance, love. With friends, family and those that will come into my life at one point or another, always choosing love.

Love will always be the best side of humanity.

"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." -1 Corinthians 13:13
