We recently visited family on the east coast. My family lives there in the same small town I grew up in. It is sweet southern charm at it's best. Everyone greets you with a smile and the phrase "slow living" doesn't even compare to how slow life can actually feel there.

a journey to our roots | SOUTH AFRICA

Last spring some of our family were hanging out and the idea of planning a trip back to the Swarts roots in South Africa popped into our minds. We started to think about all the best times to go, making sure we could get it in before Ren turned 2.

The weekend with Ren and his best bud, August

Weekends around here kind of run off of a small routine. Up early, out the door by 9 heading to a place that calms the soul. Aaron sits out on the water waiting for the waves. Ren and I wait for his best friend to come hang out on the grounds of the Adamson's Museum. That allows us to see dad and burn all the energy we have running all over their beautiful grounds.

Tiny friendships really are something sweet.

My new found appreciation for the working mom

I recently went from being home full-time with my little nugget to working two days a week at a local urgent care and I have to admit that I love it. There are many things that I have missed about using my skills. I've missed the fast pace, blood, guts, you know, the normal stuff... not quite the ER, but way more than your typical urgent care...

Ren learns Infant Swim Rescue

This summer Aaron and I decided to sign Ren up for ISR {Infant Swim Rescue}. My parents have a pool here in LA and although I like to think of myself as a helicopter parent when it comes to watching him like a hawk around the house and pool deck, let's be real, accidents happen...

Lord knows mommas work hard for that schedule. I know I did. I worked tirelessly for months and months AND months to get Ren to sleep through the night. Like he was seriously over a year old before he ever slept through the night. I fought hard for that...

Indian Lake | New York

Living in California hasn't made it very easy when it comes to seeing our family on the east coast, so this year my mom organized a week on Indian Lake in upstate New York where we could relax, have some fun in the sun and enjoy time with family...

Beach Day | Malibu

Sometimes capturing the moment via film and music is the way to this mommas heart. I sure do love this little family of mine...

The LA zoo, two sweet babes and two tired mommas

My heart can't stop exploding with gratefulness and thankfulness. My stomach is full of butterflies at all moments of the day as we get to spend the next few weeks with my sister and her sweet family. Babies just have that magical ability to make you become total mush on the inside and goo and gahh on the outside...

One year in LA

Here we are! One year later of living in Los Angeles. I remember it… well, like it was yesterday... when our 25 hour drive (half way across the country with a 5 week old baby who hated his carseat with a passion) was almost over. We drove through the grapevine, then dropped into the Valley that we would soon call home...

6 am. Faithfully, every single morning my son wakes up at 6am. Sometimes 5:58 and sometimes 6:12, but never a minute past 6:12. I have to admit, it's been a long year. Babies take a lot out of you and stretch you more than you'd ever think they would. Before Ren, I was still an early bird, just not that early and on the weekends I'd sleep in {a bit}...

Gosh, where do I even begin? Maybe I should start with our 30hr plane ride. Or maybe I should start with the overwhelming joy and love I have for my sweet baby niece Kaia Dream. Ok, actually I think I'll start with all of the good things that happened in my heart and then follow it with the hard stuff and end with the hilarious moments we had all too often...

pudgy little hands

My little baby has proven not to be so little anymore. I am pretty sure that over this trip to India he has like doubled in size and he's got this Mr. Independent thing down...

We made it! The moment I stepped off of the 30hr plane ride to India, I could smell it. The spices and culture that I love so much, flooding my heart and mind with some the most amazing and hilarious memories that I hold so close. I felt like I was home again in my home away from home...

Ren and I will be getting on a plane for India on Tuesday so we have been taking advantage of the warm southern California weather. We are heading to see my sister and brother in law and meet their precious little girl, Kaia Dream. I cannot wait to squish her little cheeks and give her all the love I have. So we have been getting all of our energy out at the beach the last few days before we jump on a plane for 30hrs...
